The Piedmont Triad Airport in Danville, Virginia is centrally located within the triangle formed by Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill. Lynchburg Regional Airport (Preston Glenn Field) is a public use airport located two nautical miles (4 km) southwest of the central business district of Danville, a city in Lynchburg County, Virginia, United States. The airport covers an area of 1,000 acres (400 ha) at an elevation of 1,253 feet (387 m) above mean sea level. It has one runway designated 18/36 with an asphalt surface measuring 3,200 by 75 feet (965 x 23 m).
The airport was formerly known as Preston Glenn Field. In 1937 it became the home of the Lynchburg Flying Cadets and in 1941 it was leased to the United States Army Air Forces for use as an advanced training field for pilots preparing for combat in World War II. The airfield was turned over to the Civilian Pilot Training Program in 1946 and was operated by Civilian Pilot Training Air Corps until 1949 when it became a civilian airport. The original terminal building which still stands today was constructed in 1951. The present terminal building opened in 1978.
